For most of us, car insurance and home insurance are necessities – but what about pet insurance?
Did you know 1 in 3 pets will need major veterinary attention each year? At Stanhope Park Veterinary Hospital the majority of emergency cases we see usually need immediate medical and surgical treatment.
We believe that pet insurance is extremely important as the cost of veterinary treatment is continually rising. This is in part due to the advent of new and better drugs, and because we are now able to carry out so many more treatments and procedures. We would recommend that you look carefully into different policies before taking one out.
The most important thing to note is if the policy is an annual policy, or a life-time policy. Annual policies are cheaper, but will only pay out on any condition for a period of one year and will then add an exclusion for that condition. Life-time policies will pay for the same condition throughout the whole of your pet’s life. They are therefore a little more expensive, but we feel that this is well worth the extra cost.
As of January 1st 2020, we will be introducing a small administrative fee for processing insurance claims. The completion of insurance claim paperwork is time-consuming, involving reading through pages of clinical notes, correspondence with veterinary surgeons for clarification, and to obtain clinical diagnosis. The administrative fee allows us to cover the costs of time taken for our professional team to submit your pet’s claim quickly and correctly. The administrative fee cannot be claimed back from your insurance company, and so will be an additional charge to your excess. Please click here for our Insurance Claims Terms and Conditions.
