We are now a “Gold Standard” Rabbit Friendly Practice!

We are very proud to announce that our Cats and Exotics Branch has now been upgraded to Gold Standard on the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWAF) list of Rabbit Friendly Vets.

Vets in training spend less time learning about rabbits than they do cats and dogs. Despite rabbits being popular pets for many years in the UK, rabbit medicine is still often just taught alongside “exotic species”, as rabbits are also very different from cats and dogs physiologically, behaviourally and anatomically.

It is important to choose a rabbit-savvy vet who has developed a specific knowledge of rabbits, either through their University training or in post-graduate CPD.

To be included on the RWAF list of Rabbit Friendly Vets, the practice has to submit a detailed application, covering all aspects of the veterinary clinic from waiting areas to kennel areas and setup, and protocols such as anaesthesia, neutering and vaccinations.

We are also required to have vets and nurses with further interest and knowledge specifically in rabbit medicine, and the achievement of our vet Yasmin now holding a GP Certificate in Exotic Animal Practice, has allowed us to obtain Gold Standard – the highest accolade.

The team at Stanhope Park Vets are delighted to have achieved this highest award – we are the only Gold Standard clinic within a 25 mile radius – which demonstrates our desire to deliver the best care for all of our patients, whatever species they may be!
